Refrigeration Services
Walk-in not holding temperature, or an ice machine falling behind service? We take readings, find the real fault, and get commercial refrigeration back in range.
When the walk-in climbs five degrees overnight, the loss is not the compressor — it is everything on the shelves.
Commercial refrigeration fails differently from comfort cooling. A rooftop unit going down makes a dining room uncomfortable; a walk-in going down costs you inventory, a health-department entry, and a service you cannot deliver tomorrow. Hood Service Company keeps light commercial refrigeration running for kitchens, shops and facilities across the Corsicana Area, and we come out when it matters.
Light Commercial Refrigeration for the Corsicana Area
We work on the equipment that holds product cold for a business: walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-in coolers and freezers, restaurant coolers and freezers, and ice machines. That covers most of what a restaurant, convenience store, church kitchen, florist, clinic or small food operation runs — the boxes, the condensing units that feed them, the evaporators inside, and the controls that are supposed to keep the whole thing in range.
The calls we take tend to sound the same. Product temperature is creeping up even though the unit runs constantly. There is ice building on the evaporator or along the suction line. The box pulls down fine overnight but cannot hold through a lunch rush. A door is sweating, or its gasket has gone hard and no longer seals. An ice machine is making cloudy, soft or hollow cubes, or has slowed to half its rated output.
Very little of this is random. Commercial refrigeration lives a harder life than anything in a house — long run hours, warm kitchens, grease in the air, doors opened hundreds of times a day, and in North-Central Texas, summer ambient temperatures that push condensers to the edge of what they were sized for. Dirty condenser coils, a failing defrost cycle, a refrigerant leak at a flare or a brazed joint, a stuck expansion valve, a drain line that has iced or clogged, worn door gaskets, or a controller whose setpoint has drifted will all show up as the same symptom: the box is not holding temperature.
What We Diagnose
We do not guess at a refrigeration call, because the cheap guess and the expensive guess look identical from outside the box. Our technicians take operating readings on the system as it runs — suction and head pressure, superheat and subcooling, temperature split across the evaporator, and amp draw on the compressor and condenser fan. We check the defrost cycle end to end rather than assuming it works, confirm the drain actually drains, and test the controls against what the display claims. Leak detection is done with electronic detection and, where the history calls for it, pressure testing, so a system is not simply topped up and handed back to fail again.
We also look at the box itself, because the mechanical side is only half of it. Door seals, hinges and closers, panel integrity, insulation, and airflow clearance around the condenser all affect whether a correctly working system can hold temperature. A walk-in with a tired gasket and a blocked condenser will defeat a healthy compressor every time.
What Repair Usually Looks Like
Most of what we fix is unglamorous and decisive: clean and clear a condenser that has not been touched in two seasons, find and repair a leak and recharge the system properly, replace a failed defrost timer or termination thermostat, free or replace an expansion valve, clear and re-pitch a drain, replace door gaskets and realign a door that no longer closes square, or replace contactors, capacitors and fan motors that are on their way out. On ice machines, that often means a full clean and sanitise, a water filter, and correcting the water or condenser problem that caused the poor cube in the first place.
Where a repair no longer makes sense — a compressor failure on an old condensing unit, or a box that has been patched past the point of sense — we will say so plainly and quote the replacement rather than sell you a repair we do not believe in. We will also tell you when something can wait, because a shop running on a tight month deserves to know which of three findings is actually urgent.
Planned Maintenance Is Cheaper Than Lost Product
Refrigeration rewards scheduled attention more than almost anything else we service. Coils cleaned on a schedule, gaskets replaced before they fail, drains cleared before they ice, and readings recorded visit over visit so a slow refrigerant loss is caught as a trend rather than as a 2 a.m. phone call. If you run a kitchen, a planned agreement is the difference between a maintenance line item and an inventory write-off. Our Commercial Care Plan covers this work on a quarterly schedule, quoted after a site survey.
Our Approach
Hood Service Company is a family-owned business, licensed and working out of Corsicana since 2015. When you call with a refrigeration problem, a technician comes out, takes readings, and tells you what the equipment is actually doing — not a sales pitch built on a guess. We explain the finding in plain language, give you the price before the work starts, and we do not invent findings to pad a ticket.
We are also straight about scope. We are a light commercial refrigeration contractor: the boxes, condensing units, evaporators, controls and ice machines listed above. We do not take on supermarket rack systems, or industrial process refrigeration. If a job is outside what we do well, we would rather tell you on the phone than discover it in your kitchen.
Related Services
Refrigeration rarely stands alone in a commercial building. The same kitchen that runs a walk-in also runs rooftop units and makeup air, and the two interact — a kitchen fighting its own heat load will work its refrigeration harder than the equipment was sized for. If you are dealing with AC Repair or need Commercial HVAC alongside the refrigeration work, the same crew handles both, scheduled around your hours rather than ours.
Get the Box Holding Temperature Again
If product temperature is drifting, ice is building where it should not, or an ice machine has stopped keeping up with service, do not wait for the box to give up during a rush. Contact Hood Service Company and we will get a technician out to find out what the equipment is really doing.
